My response to this image.
In this photograph i see a person looking out a window and on that window is curtains, on the ceiling a couple lights in the style of a office building and at the back of the room a couple more windows. It looks like the man is in a kitchen because it looks like there is a towel rack in front of him and in the background of the photo theres a shelf with plates and drinking glasses on top of it, It also looks like he is in some sort of office building due to the way the lights are formatted on the ceiling. This photograph reminds me of a self portrait because of the way he is standing there is like he set up a camera to specifically shoot a picture of him looking like that.I think this image is abstract because there are so many objects in the photo and you do not know which one specifically to focus on. I think the formal element that this picture focuses on is shapes because there are so many different shapes mainly rectangles which looks very interesting. The play of light captured in this image is quite interesting because some objects have little light some objects have no light and some objects have plenty of light, the person who views the image is left wondering what the objects are. In this photograph it looks like there is barely any space in the room he is in because there are so many objects in the picture and it looks very full. In the picture the lights are on which suggests that it is night and his body posture suggests that he is tired. in the image the man is in focus but objects in the background are out of focus which will make the person who is looking at the picture think what the object is.The view of the image looks 3D due to the objects obstructing our vision of the room. This picture is different from real life because you don't usually see people looking out there window like that at night. The thing that i found most mysterious about this picture is the man because he is just standing there with a blank expression, it looks unusual. If the artist was here i would ask what made him want to go out and take this image and what gave him the idea of this image and how did he get the image. If i was to research this image i could find the artists name the name of the picture and the date when the photo was released. This knowledge will help me understand the picture more because with the information i can pin point what the photograph is supposed to be about. If i was to name this photograph i would name it blank because thats the expression on the mans face and i think it will be an interesting title. I think the photograph is about an opening into the mans life which with the expression it shows that he lives a boring and repetitive life. I feel it would be boring to live in this photograph because the room the man is standing in looks like an average kitchen and the expression on the mans face and the body posture makes it look like he is bored of his life.I think the artist made this photograph to show how other people might be living, it looks like he lives in quite a wealthy house but looks very upset and bored. I think the most effective thing in this photograph is the man standing there and the some of the objects because it makes the viewer of the photo wonder where he is.
This is my first Photoshoot which is related to openings.
Photos that i like that are related to openings.
My favourite artist to do with openings
My favourite artist who takes photographs related to openings is Shizuka Yokomizo. Yokomizo is a 53 year old japanese artist who particularly likes to take photos of people at their windows of their house. Yokomizo has taken other photos of people doing everyday things. I like Yokomizo's photos because she makes things people do that are usually boring into intresting looking things by the way she plays with how things look on the camera.
Here are some of my favourites
The reason why i like these photos is because they are all similar and it is a look into how other peoples lives are through an opening.
My favourite.
My favourite photo out of all of the photos there is.
The reason why i like this image so much is because its like he does not know Yokomizo is taking the photo. In this photograph i see a man who's on the phone in what looks like his living room, i think it's a living room because there is a couch, a chair and a few paintings which are typical in a living room. I find this interesting because when you look at it you wonder who he is talking to, whats it about or is it important or not. This photograph reminds me of someone spying because it looks like he does not know someone is there and he is continuing with everyday life doing what he usually does. I think this image is abstract because its not very clear what the photo is or what he is doing. The formal element in this photograph is shapes, this is the same with most of Yokomizos photo, i think its shapes because i can see so many rectangles in this photo the window panels the paintings and the door.
My 2nd Photoshoot
There are supposed to be more photos but i am having some issues exporting them.
Using my phone i went around taking photos of objects and nature that relate to openings whether its plants opening to rubbish and gum on the floor or a bus seat opening to people and other seats
Why i picked openings.
I picked openings because i like the idea that everything is viewed through an opening
New photoshoot 15/11/19
I combined a few photos of the ones up there, printed them out and rephotographed it through openings.
New Openings photoshoot 22/11/19
I printed this photo on A3 paper
I then stuck it on the window and rephotographed it through "openings"
This was the result
This was the result
New photoshoot 28/11/19
On Friday the 28th i had another openings photoshoot. I merged 4 photos from my photoshoot last week and printed the final result on acetate and stuck it on a window. Then i picked a few objects and photographed through them objects. This was the result.
Project Evaluation
For this project i researched openings, when i first saw a photo described as openings i was very confused. i was wondering why it was a image through a object, i thought it looked cool. i researched Shizuka Yokomizo quite alot and she slowly became my favourite artist, this is because i liked the portraits of people taken through "openings"
